I’d argue that when it comes to household investments, a good vacuum is among the most worthwhile. I’m talking Bissell, Shark, Black & Decker — even Dyson.

As a five-foot-tall weakling, I’m particularly partial to these pint-sized picker-uppers (OK, enough alliteration). They often weigh far less than their upright counterparts, making them handy for quick cleanups all around the house. Plus, they usually include a built-in hand vacuum to use on furniture and stairs, so you’re really getting two appliances in one.
